About Law

There are two options that a student has for taking up law as their preferred degree.

One can go for a 5-year integrated course (BBA LLB/ BA LLB) after having qualified for 10+2/higher secondary school examination/intermediate examination or equivalent. The other option is to go for a 3-year course (LLB)  after completing graduation (bachelor’s degree).

Law Entrance Exams

Different universities have different entrance exams and eligibility criteria for admission to law courses. Below are some of the most popular law entrance exams with all relevant details and links:

  1. CLAT
    Common Law Admission Test, commonly known as CLAT is a national-level law entrance exam in which around 22 NLUs and other private law schools participate. The exam is conducted in an offline mode. It is an objective-based paper, the duration of which is 2 hours. This exam is only for a 5-year law course.
  2. AILET
    This exam is conducted by NLU Delhi for a 5-year integrated law course. The questions are based on English, General Awareness, Legal Aptitude etc. The test consists of 150 questions for 150 marks.  
  3. LSAT
    Law School Admission Test, commonly known as LSAT is a standardized test of reading and verbal reasoning skills designed by the USA–based Law School Admission Council (LSAC) for use by law schools in India. There are approximately 85 law schools that participate. The exam is an objective one and the duration is 2 hours and 20 minutes.  
  4. MH CET
    Conducted for law universities and schools in Maharashtra, this exam is for both 5-year and 3-year law courses. The exam is held in computer-based mode and the duration is 2 hours for 150 questions.
  5. DU LLB
    Conducted on behalf of Delhi University, the DU LLB entrance exam is a graduate-level entrance test, only for a 3-year law course. There are 3 centres for which the exam is conducted. ( Campus Law Centre, Law Centre 1 and Law Centre 2). The duration of the exam is 2 hours for 100 questions.
  6. SLAT/SET Symbiosis
    Symbiosis Entrance Test commonly known as SET is a common written test conducted for taking admission to undergraduate law programs offered by various institutes under Symbiosis International University. A total of 60 questions have to be answered. Based on the scores of this entrance, the candidates have to go through 2 more rounds comprising of a personal interview and a written ability test.
  7. ULSAT
    UPES Law Studies Aptitude Test commonly known as ULSAT is conducted by the University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES). The competitive entrance test is conducted to grant admission to 5-year law courses such as BA LLB, BBA LLB, Bcom LLB etc. The exam is conducted in online mode and the duration is 2 hours.
